The 135-year-old Fazer Café Kluuvikatu store is renewed – customers can design their own Fazer Blue milk chocolate wrapper

The renewed Fazer Café Kluuvikatu 3 store will open on 17 September 2026. On the opening day, Fazer celebrates its 135th anniversary. To mark the occasion, Fazer will give customers a special limited edition of 135 numbered Karl Fazer Milk Chocolate tablets. Following the refurbishment, customers can design their own wrapper for selected Karl Fazer milk chocolate flavours. In addition, the confectionery and gift store now features an expanded selection of classic and new Fazer pick-and-mix pralines in a prominent location.

“Fazer Kluuvikatu has been a place to enjoy, spend time and discover something new for 135 years. People’s fundamental needs have changed very little over the decades, but new expectations have emerged around them,” says Miika Kostilainen, Managing Director, Fazer Retail.

“Today, visitors to Kluuvikatu are increasingly looking for experiences, inspiration and opportunities to make individual choices. Alongside the café experience, the popularity of personalised gifts and souvenirs has grown significantly,” he continues.

New experiences and personalised products

As part of the store refurbishment, the confectionery and gift section now features an even wider selection of pick-and-mix pralines, allowing customers to easily create their own favourite assortment for themselves, as a gift or as a souvenir.

Customers can also design their own wrapper for selected Karl Fazer milk chocolate flavours. The unique chocolate tablet is produced in-store and can be taken home immediately.

“More and more travellers want not only to taste iconic classics and seasonal novelties but also to take a piece of Finland home with them. Through this store refurbishment, Fazer Café Kluuvikatu offers new experiences and more opportunities than ever to make personal choices and create meaningful souvenirs. With this renewal, we want to strengthen our position as one of the most interesting visitor destinations in Helsinki for both domestic and international guests,” says Kostilainen.

To celebrate both the refurbishment and Fazer’s anniversary year, Fazer will distribute a limited edition of 135 numbered Karl Fazer Milk Chocolate tablets at the renewed Fazer Café Kluuvikatu store from 10:00 a.m. on 17 September 2026.

History of Fazer Café Kluuvikatu 3

Fazer’s story began on 17 September 1891, when 25-year-old Karl Fazer opened his first French-Russian confectionery café at Kluuvikatu 3 in central Helsinki.
Fazer Café is still located at the same address, although the current building is the third in the café’s history. The present building was completed in 1930 and is designed by architect Gösta Juslen.
The café quickly became one of the best-known meeting places in Helsinki and a favourite among visitors.
Fazer introduced Helsinki residents to new taste experiences, including Bébé pastries, toffee and ice cream, which was a rarity at the time.
Kluuvikatu is known not only for its café but also for its legendary confectionery shop and decorative display window, which changes with the seasons.
Several historical features of Fazer Café Kluuvikatu, including the dome ceiling, floors and curved display windows, are protected. These protected elements were not altered during the 2026 refurbishment.

Fazer 135 years

The year 2026 marks 135 years since Karl Fazer founded the company. To celebrate the anniversary, a special history-themed lecture will be held at Fazer Experience Visitor Centre in Vantaa on 1 October. The event will explore Karl Fazer’s lifework, key milestones in Fazer’s history and the stories behind the company’s iconic products and innovations. The event will also celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Fazer Experience Visitor Centre. The lecture lasts approximately one hour, and tickets cost 19 euros. The lecture will be held in Finnish.
