Smartports awarded approximately SEK 25 million through Klimatklivet for 49 energy hub projects across Sweden

Smartports has been granted approximately SEK 25 million in investment support through the Swedish Climate Leap initiative, Klimatklivet, for 49 local energy hub projects across Sweden. The projects are scheduled for completion by August 2027 and mark Smartports’ transition from individual installations to a large-scale rollout.

The initiative comprises 49 projects across Sweden, with an estimated total of:

• 500 Smartports
• 1.6 MWp of combined solar capacity
• 12 MWh of total battery storage capacity

Distributed across Sweden from north to south, the projects will transform already developed parking areas into local energy hubs combining solar power, battery storage, EV charging and weather-protected parking.

With these 49 projects, we are taking the Smartports solution to scale across Sweden. The support from Klimatklivet is a strong validation of our solution and a clear confirmation that it represents the right path forward for the future of energy infrastructure. By August 2027, 49 new local energy hubs will be producing and storing energy close to where it is used. The initiative demonstrates how the Smartports model can scale from individual installations to a wide network of local energy hubs, says Julian Lundberg, CEO of Smartports.

For property owners, the projects create an opportunity to transform existing parking areas into productive, revenue-generating energy assets. By using land that has already been developed, new local energy infrastructure can be established without taking additional land into use, while creating value for property owners, tenants and local communities.

Klimatklivet is an investment support programme administered by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. It supports physical investments that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to Sweden’s climate transition.
