SECO announces SOM-SMARC-Dragonwing-IQ8 to bridge Arduino® prototyping and industrial Edge AI deployment Early samples will provide OEMs with an evaluation platform featuring a SMARC® Rel. 2.1.1 module based on Qualcomm Dragonwing™ IQ8 Series, to support the transition from Arduino® VENTUNOTM Q prototyping to industrial Edge AI applications
Arezzo, Italy, August 26, 2026 – SECO S.p.A. (“ SECO” or the “ Company ”) today opens priority access for a limited number of SOM-SMARC-Dragonwing-IQ8 hardware early samples, enabling OEMs and engineering teams to evaluate the SMARC® Rel. 2.1.1 module based on Dragonwing IQ8 Series for industrial Edge AI applications. Developed as part of SECO’s collaboration with Arduino® and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., the module is designed to support customers moving from rapid prototyping to production-oriented architectures for AI-enabled robotics, smart machines, industrial vision, HMI, and machine control.
From Arduino prototype to industrial with SECO Arduino has become an established entry point for rapid prototyping, enabling developers and engineering teams to validate ideas quickly within a widely adopted ecosystem. For industrial OEMs, however, the most critical step often comes next: turning a validated prototype into a product architecture that can meet requirements for reliability, software maintainability, cybersecurity, and long-term deployment.
With the SOM-SMARC-Dragonwing-IQ8 , SECO supports the transition from rapid prototyping with Arduino VENTUNO™ Q—Arduino’s Edge AI development platform based on Dragonwing IQ8 Series—to industrial-scale deployment. Developers can build and validate their applications on Arduino VENTUNO Q and use Arduino App Lab to port them to SECO’s Dragonwing IQ8-based system-on-module, helping preserve the software work completed during prototyping as they move toward a production-oriented architecture.
SECO complements this software continuity with industrial-grade SMARC hardware, carrier board design expertise, BSP and OS support, cybersecurity services, long-term lifecycle management, and out-of-the-box support for the Clea framework . Clea extends the hardware capabilities with fleet management, secure remote OTA updates, remote troubleshooting, container orchestration and accelerated AI workflow deployment at scale via Clea Studio AI, for long-term scalability, all within the Works with ArduinoTM ecosystem.
A compact SMARC platform for industrial Edge AI SECO’s SOM-SMARC-Dragonwing-IQ8 is a SMARC® Rel. 2.1.1 system-on-module based on Dragonwing IQ-8275 processor, designed for OEMs developing AI-enabled industrial devices that need to balance AI performance, power efficiency, and cost optimization.
Key capabilities include:
2 PRESS RELEASE
AI acceleration options up to 40 TOPS configurations, supporting different performance and cost requirements for industrial Edge AI deployments.
Compact modular architecture based on the SMARC® Rel. 2.1.1 standard, supporting industrial design-in and platform scalability.
High-performance embedded platform with up to 32GB LPDDR5 / LPDDR5X memory and up to 1TB UFS 3.1 storage.
Industrial connectivity and expansion , including Gigabit and 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, PCIe Gen4, MIPI-CSI, and CAN-FD.
Clea OS support , providing a consistent software baseline for secure lifecycle management, OTA updates, and connected device scalability.
“The transition from prototype to production is where many Edge AI projects lose momentum,” said Lorenzo Veltroni , Chief Product and Marketing Officer at SECO . “With SOM-SMARC-Dragonwing-IQ8, we are helping OEMs bridge that gap, enabling a seamless path from rapid prototyping with Arduino VENTUNO Q to industrial-scale deployment.
By combining the performance of Dragonwing technology with SECO’s expertise in industrial platforms, the SOM-
SMARC-Dragonwing-IQ8 empowers customers to accelerate innovation while ensuring reliability, lifecycle support, and long-term availability. The SOM-SMARC-Dragonwing-IQ8 reflects SECO’s role as a trusted industrial partner for companies looking to scale AI-enabled products from concept to production.” “One of the most powerful things we can do for the maker and engineering community is make sure that the journey from idea to industrial product is uninterrupted. With the SECO SOM-SMARC-Dragonwing-IQ8, that path becomes real: developers can prototype on Arduino VENTUNO Q, validate their AI applications, and step directly into a production-grade architecture without throwing away the work, the code, or the ecosystem they already know ,” said Marcello Majonchi, Chief Product Officer of Arduino, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc . “This is what 'Works with ArduinoTM' was built for: not just compatibility, but continuity. We're proud to see SECO extend the Arduino experience all the way to the factory floor. ’’ “Simplifying and streamlining the development transition from Arduino VENTUNO Q to SECO’s industrial SOM is important because it helps turn developer innovation into scalable industrial products, in a faster and reliable manner ,” said Eric Mazzoleni, VP, Industrial, IoT and Robotics Europe at Qualcomm Germany . “Built on the Dragonwing IQ8 Series, this high-performance platform for compute-intensive and AI-driven applications enables developers to move from concept to industrial deployment on a common hardware and software foundation, reducing development effort and accelerating time to market for next-generation, power-efficient industrial AI products .”
Priority access for selected evaluation activities A limited number of SOM-SMARC-Dragonwing-IQ8 early samples are expected to be made available for selected customer and partner evaluation activities. OEMs and engineering teams interested in assessing the module for industrial Edge AI applications can register here to receive updates on priority access, evaluation opportunities, and technical resources.
