Ruukki launches Grid15 three-dimensional surface profile offering innovative design opportunities for sandwich panels

Ruukki Construction, part of SSAB and a leading supplier of sustainable, steel-based building products, introduces a three-dimensional profile for SPA sandwich panels that enables innovative new design opportunities for buildings requiring a distinctive architectural identity. It transforms the impression of the façade, depending on where you view it from. The intricate pattern formed by horizontal and vertical lines will appear as you move closer to the building, while the façade has a matte appearance at a distance.

Ruukki’s three-dimensional pattern design, Grid15, is an innovative addition to its wide range of sandwich panels and surface profiles. It represents a new direction in façade design, where greater expectations are placed on façade systems to deliver attractive aesthetics with a single product. Grid15 can be selected as a surface profile on SPA sandwich panels.

This surface profile enables high-impact design with functionality, eliminating the need for additional façade structures to create modern and distinctive architecture. The three dimensions of the panel introduce rhythm and visual interest. It can also be combined with panels featuring other surface profiles from the portfolio, lifting the visual impact of the façade beyond standard solutions.

Grid15 also offers practical advantages, as a textured surface is more visually forgiving than standard surface profiles, making any minor dents or impacts that may occur over time much less noticeable. As a result, the building retains its appearance better over the long term.

The surface profile Grid15 was selected for an approximately 4,500 square-meter commercial building in Pirkkala, in Finland for JIS-Automation Oy. Developed by Meijou Oy and owned by AARE Invest Oy, the building was completed in summer 2026. It is among the first projects to make extensive use of the newly launched three-dimensional sandwich panel.

Ruukki's new three-dimensional surface profile for sandwich panels is well suited for different types of buildings, including commercial, industrial and public buildings.
