Posti has been granted newspaper delivery support in 37 regions – secures five-day delivery of newspapers

The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom has awarded government grants for newspaper delivery in regions where five-day early-morning delivery is not commercially viable. Grants were available for 42 regions across Finland, and funding was awarded for 40 regions.

Posti won the competitive tendering process in 37 regions. Posti was awarded delivery support in all regions except the municipalities of Kemi, Posio and Tervola.

No applications were received for two regions in Lapland. Traficom will therefore impose a public service obligation under the Postal Act on Posti Jakelu Oy to ensure newspaper delivery in Enontekiö and Utsjoki municipalities.

The new funding period will begin on 1 October 2026 and continue for one year. This is the fourth round of government funding for newspaper delivery.

The delivery support covers postal codes outside the comprehensive early-morning delivery network, accounting for approximately half of all postal codes in Finland. The support is allocated to the delivery of paid subscription newspapers published at least three weekdays a week, and applies to deliveries on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In the supported regions, universal service products, meaning stamped letters, are delivered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The delivery support therefore increases the number of delivery days to five.
