Patria and KNDS Deutschland Maintenance (KNDS) have today signed a framework agreement covering the assembly and final integration of Patria 6x6 armoured personnel carriers within the multinational Common Armoured Vehicles (CAVS) programme. The partnership is part of the two procurement contracts between Patria and Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) made in December 2025.
Patria is in full speed building the German industrial capacity for CAVS programme with KNDS and other German industrial partners. Serial deliveries to the Bundeswehr will ramp up in early 2027, while local production in Germany will be gradually increased from 2027 onwards as part of the technology transfer effort. Technology transfer is a central part of Patria’s business model, in which armoured vehicle manufacturing expertise is transferred to local partners.
“We are pleased to confirm this partnership with KNDS, which will provide significant added value for Germany and create local employment at KNDS and in its supplier base. This contract demonstrates that the German industry is capable of delivering the self-evident high quality, while also providing the cost-effective local production required by the CAVS programme and supporting the European defence manufacturing capacity,” says Jussi Järvinen, Patria’s Executive Vice President of Protected Mobility.
Launched in 2020 through cooperation between Finland and Latvia, the CAVS programme aims to deliver a joint, modern 6x6 armoured vehicle system based on Patria 6x6 vehicle. The programme is participated today by Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Germany and the UK. The deliveries have been made in Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Denmark and Germany, with vehicles being also operational in Ukraine.
Through the CAVS programme, participating nations can acquire modern armoured vehicles in a timely and cost-effective manner. The programme’s common approach enables shared procurement, coordinated product development and efficient life-cycle management. The CAVS programme remains open to European and NATO nations with comparable 6x6 armoured vehicle requirements.
