Trill Impact’s portfolio company Open Cosmos, a leading space tech company delivering satellite infrastructure, connectivity and real-time intelligence, has raised €300 million in a Series C financing round led by European investors. The financing marks a significant milestone for Open Cosmos and aims to expand its satellite mass manufacturing capabilities and accelerate the delivery of intelligence and connectivity services, as governments and enterprises increase investment in secure, space-based systems.
Founded in 2015, Open Cosmos designs, builds and operates satellites to understand and connect the world. The company provides end-to-end satellite missions through OpenOrbit, shared Earth observation infrastructure through OpenConstellation, satellite data and AI-powered analytics through DataCosmos, and secure, sovereign satellite communications through ConnectedCosmos. Together, these capabilities enable governments and organizations to access space infrastructure, turn satellite data into actionable intelligence and securely connect critical operations.
Open Cosmos’ technology spans Earth observation, IoT connectivity and secure communications. Its expanding satellite infrastructure combines advanced sensing, onboard AI and space-based connectivity – enabling faster, better-informed decision-making across areas such as environmental monitoring, disaster response, critical infrastructure and security.
Trill Impact first invested in Open Cosmos in 2023, when co-leading the company’s USD 50 million financing round alongside ETF Partners and A&G's Energy Transition Tech Fund. Since then, as part of Trill Impact’s Ventures portfolio, Open Cosmos has continued to scale its operations and international presence while significantly expanding its capabilities across satellite infrastructure, Earth observation, data and connectivity.
The Series C financing represents a significant step in its development and provides the company with substantial resources to pursue its continued growth, expand its satellite mass manufacturing capabilities and further develop its intelligence and connectivity satellite infrastructure around Earth. The new funding aims to accelerate the deployment of its capabilities by expanding ConnectedCosmos, OpenConstellation and DataCosmos, and scaling the engineering, manufacturing and software teams across Open Cosmos' operations.
Rafel Jorda Siquier, Founder and CEO of Open Cosmos says;
“Space infrastructure is becoming as critical as energy, digital networks and transport. Governments and enterprises increasingly require secure communications and operational data delivered through resilient systems. But infrastructure alone isn’t enough. The real value comes from the intelligence that relays what’s happening on Earth in real time and the global connectivity to deliver it”.
“Bringing together satellites, secure communications and AI-powered data services, we’re creating a system that transforms information from orbit into something that governments and enterprises can act on. This investment allows us to accelerate that vision, satisfying the satellite manufacturing orders that governments and large companies are placing for our reliable and high-performance satellites and delivering the sovereign services the world needs.”
Commenting on the financing, Dr. Alexander Domin, Trill Impact, board representative, says;
“As we see it, Open Cosmos has a unique position in the space tech sector, with deep technical capability combined with commercial discipline and an extremely talented team. We are very impressed by their journey so far and excited to see their potential being recognized also by others. We congratulate Rafel and the entire Open Cosmos team on this significant milestone.”
Bita Sehat, Partner at Trill Impact Advisory and Head of the Ventures portfolio, continues:
“Since Trill Impact’s initial investment in 2023, Open Cosmos has demonstrated an impressive ability to translate technological ambition into commercial scale. The company has built a differentiated position across satellite infrastructure, connectivity and real-time intelligence, with applications that demonstrate the growing importance of satellite data in addressing real-world challenges. We are pleased to continue supporting Open Cosmos in this next phase of growth and warmly welcome the new investors to the shareholder group.”
The round includes participation from Lightrock, ETF Partners, Institut Català de Finances (ICF), Entrepreneurs First and two major international pension funds. Other participants include Convex Group, National Security Strategic Investment Fund (NSSIF), Phoenix Court (home of LocalGlobe and Latitude) and Claret Capital Partners.
