Nexam Chemical continues the commercial development of Reactive Recycling™. During the summer, two additional customers have progressed from industrial evaluation to commercial use of the company’s technology - one in North America and one in Europe.
The North American customer is the Canadian manufacturer of rigid food packaging based on recycled PET (rPET) for which Nexam Chemical has previously communicated positive industrial test results. Following successful validation, the customer has decided to continue using Nexam Chemical’s technology in its commercial production.
During the previous industrial trials, Reactive Recycling™ enabled a return to normal production speed while reducing the number of defective products by more than 90 percent. The solution also enabled a high proportion of internally recycled material without compromising product performance.
A European customer within the same broader segment has also progressed during the summer from industrial trials to commercial use following successful testing.
“The key signal for us is not individual orders, but that we are now seeing more customers move step by step from laboratory and industrial trials to actual use in commercial production. These two customers provide further evidence that Reactive Recycling™ is delivering tangible value in industrial applications and has the potential for broader commercial adoption,” says Henrik Bernquist, Business Manager for Recycling at Nexam Chemical.
Existing commercial customers continuously evaluate opportunities to use Nexam Chemical’s technology in additional products and applications. Each new commercial implementation can therefore provide a starting point for progressively broader use by the customer.
In parallel, Nexam Chemical has seen a marked increase in customer activity at the top of the commercial funnel. During June and July, the number of samples shipped for evaluation by prospective customers increased by more than 80 percent compared with the same period last year, excluding additional samples distributed through Palmer Holland. Qualified enquiries have also come from a broad range of geographic markets, including Europe, North America, South America, Asia and Africa.
“The geographic reach of the interest in our solutions is clearly broadening. We believe that our increased presence at key industry trade fairs, improved digital visibility and increasingly focused positioning of Reactive Recycling™ are making it easier for relevant customers to find and engage with us. Our focus now is to systematically convert this growing pipeline into industrial trials and, ultimately, commercial production,” says Ronnie Törnqvist, CEO of Nexam Chemical.
Reactive Recycling™ is Nexam Chemical’s technology for improving the properties and processability of recycled polymers. The technology enables a higher proportion of recycled material to be used while maintaining or improving material properties and production efficiency.

About Nexam Chemical
Nexam Chemical develops technology and products that make it possible to significantly improve the production process and properties of most types of plastics in a cost-effective manner and with retained production technology. The improved properties include strength, toughness, temperature and chemical resistance as well as service life. The improvements in properties that can be achieved by using Nexam Chemical's technology make it possible to replace metals and other heavier or more expensive materials with plastics in a number of applications. In applications where plastic is already used, Nexam Chemicals products can improve the manufacturing process, reducing material use and enable more environmental friendly alternatives. Example of commercial applications: pipe manufacturing, foam production and high-performance plastics. More information about the business will be found on www.nexamchemical.com.
