From December 2026, Etihad Airways will launch a new direct route between Gothenburg and Abu Dhabi, creating the first non-stop connection between Gothenburg and the United Arab Emirates. The new service will improve access from West Sweden to more than 50 destinations across Asia via Abu Dhabi.
Starting 17 December 2026, Etihad Airways will operate flights between Göteborg Landvetter Airport and Abu Dhabi four times per week with a capacity of 160 seats.
“For West Sweden, the country’s leading export region, international connectivity plays a crucial role. Our companies compete globally, build partnerships, and attract investments, customers, and talent from around the world,” says Patrik Andersson, CEO at Business Region Göteborg.
The launch aligns with the ambitions of GOT Connect, a regional collaboration working to increase international accessibility to the Gothenburg region through new and expanded air routes.
Etihad's decision to establish a direct service to Gothenburg reflects the region's growing international importance and attractiveness. Improved connectivity strengthens conditions for trade, investment and knowledge exchange while making it easier for companies in the Gothenburg region to engage with partners and customers across global markets.
GOT Connect brings together Swedavia, Visit Sweden, Göteborg & Co, the West Sweden Tourist Board, Business Region Göteborg and the West Sweden Chamber of Commerce. Through coordinated efforts, the partnership works to strengthen domestic and international connectivity to the Gothenburg region.
A direct connection to a major hub in the Middle East has long been a strategic priority for the collaboration. Regional analyses show that such a route significantly improves accessibility by providing faster and more convenient connections to destinations across Asia and other parts of the world.
