Microchip Expands Single Pair Ethernet Portfolio with New 10BASE‑T1S Devices Enabling Scalable Edge Connectivity

CHANDLER, Ariz., Sept. 29, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Microchip Technology (Nasdaq: MCHP) today announces the expansion of its 10BASE-T1S portfolio with the introduction of the LAN8679 and LAN8680 10BASE‑T1S PMD transceivers, alongside the LAN8660X/1X/2X family of endpoints with integrated transceivers. Designed to support next-generation zonal architectures, these solutions deliver flexible, space-efficient connectivity that extends Ethernet to the network edge.

As automotive, industrial and robotics systems evolve toward fully Ethernet-based networks, designers face increasing demands for simplified architectures, reduced wiring complexity and efficient edge node integration. Microchip’s latest 10BASE‑T1S devices address these challenges and are designed to meet AEC-Q100 and ISO 26262 functional safety standards, building on Microchip’s VelocityDRIVE™ portfolio with additional multidrop connectivity solutions featuring a standardized, streamlined interface. 

The LAN8679 transceiver provides a standardized Open Alliance 3‑Pin (OA3P) interface in a compact 8‑pin VDFN package, supporting space-constrained edge nodes, while reducing pin count and design complexity. The LAN8680 builds on these capabilities by integrating System Basis Chip (SBC) features, including power management, system wake/sleep control and watchdog supervision. Both devices are engineered to enhance reliability and safety for demanding environments such as automotive and industrial applications.

By leveraging 10BASE‑T1S multidrop topology, Microchip’s solutions allow multiple nodes—typically eight or more—to share a single bus line. This reduces wiring weight, lowers system costs and eliminates the need for gateways, making it easier to connect sensors and actuators directly to the network edge.
