In summer 2027, Giuseppe Verdi’s Macbeth will be staged at the unique opera house in Bergslagen, Sweden. The production will run from 31 July to 29 August, with two opening performances on Saturday 31 July and Sunday 1 August.
Macbeth is one of Giuseppe Verdi’s most dramatic operas and is based on William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy. Its story of power, ambition, guilt and human downfall has secured Macbeth a prominent place on opera stages around the world.
With Verdi’s powerful music, major Chorus passages and intense dramatic expression, the work will now take the stage at Opera på Skäret, where singers and musicians from Sweden and around the world come together each summer to create opera in the unique setting of a former timber warehouse outside Kopparberg.
“William Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece about the abuse of power, greed and human downfall is brought to new life through Giuseppe Verdi’s brilliant interpretation. We look forward to bringing together a team of outstanding artists for the production! Macbeth has long been a dream production for Opera på Skäret, and we are convinced that it will be particularly well suited to the old timber warehouse, with its distinctive industrial atmosphere, nestled among the forests of Bergslagen,” says Alexander Niclasson, Artistic Director of Opera på Skäret.
As in previous productions, the principal roles in Macbeth will be performed by two casts. This means two opening performances during the opening weekend, on Saturday 31 July and Sunday 1 August 2027.
Alongside the announcement of Macbeth, Opera på Skäret is also releasing tickets for both opening performances.
