Konecranes has received an order from Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), one of the world’s largest aluminium smelters, to modernize five auxiliary cranes at its smelter complex in Bahrain. The order was booked in January 2026, with equipment delivery planned for the end of 2026 and installation scheduled to begin in early 2027.
The modernization will support safe and reliable operations in Alba's Casthouse and Mould Shop, where molten aluminium is processed into finished products and uninterrupted production is essential. The five auxiliary cranes play an important role in supporting daily production activities and maintaining material flows in these critical process areas.
The scope includes upgrading the hoist and trolley systems of five auxiliary cranes to heavy-duty configuration, improving reliability and supporting safe, continuous production operations.
As part of the modernization, Konecranes will supply new heavy-duty trolley units with an M8 duty class rating and upgraded electrical systems. The new configuration includes an additional electrical drum brake, adding a further safety layer and meeting the demands of high-duty applications with frequent lifting cycles and continuous operation.
"These auxiliary cranes play an important role in supporting production processes at Alba. By upgrading them to a heavy-duty configuration, this modernization will help improve reliability and support safe, continuous operations," says Imtiaz Ismail, Sales Manager, Industrial Services, Konecranes.
Alba is a longtime customer of Konecranes, with lifting equipment installed across multiple production areas at the smelter, and this modernization continues the ongoing cooperation between the two companies.
A strong focus on customers, commitment to business growth, and continuous improvement make Konecranes a material handling industry leader. This is underpinned by investments in digitalization and technology, as well as efforts to make material flows more efficient with solutions that support the decarbonization of the economy and advance circularity and safety.
