hep global develops 12.6 MWp solar park with battery storage in Mintraching The Mintraching solar park is being built on an area of approximately 12.2 hectares directly alongside the two-track Passau–Obertraubling railway line. Once operational, the solar park will be able to generate around 14.4 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year, enough to supply approximately 4,200 households with renewable energy, according to the Federal Statistical Office. The integrated battery storage system, with a capacity of 8.6 MWh and a power output of 4.3 MW, expands the technical applications of the electricity generated. Surplus solar power can be stored and flexibly fed into the grid when needed. Special aspects of the project development: Potential ground monuments During the project development phase, the Bavarian State Office for Monument Protection granted the Mintraching solar park a permit under monument protection law, subject to certain conditions. Archaeological structures from past settlement periods are suspected to be located underground. As a result, the construction work is being monitored by archaeological specialists. “Measures of this kind require close coordination between project development, the authorities, archaeologists and construction teams and make an important contribution to the responsible preservation of cultural heritage,” explains Katharina Walter, Senior Associate Project Development Germany at hep global. Focus on environmental concerns Environmental concerns were also integrated into the planning process at an early stage and are being professionally monitored throughout the construction period. Species protection measures are being implemented for a confirmed breeding population of the whinchat on the site. Additional grassland, hedgerow and field-margin areas are intended to enhance the habitat structure across the site. Additional requirements arise from the project’s location within a water protection area. The planning and construction work take strict requirements regarding the use of materials and the handling of substances hazardous to water into account. At the same time, the future operation of the solar park will eliminate the use of fertilizers and plant protection products on the site, which were optional part of its previous land-use context.
