Lund, Sweden – Glycorex Transplantation AB (publ) today announces that the scientific journal Transfusion has published an independent study conducted by NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) and the University of Cambridge. The study demonstrates that Glycosorb® ABO effectively reduces blood group antibodies in platelet units to safe levels without significant cell loss.
Platelet shortages and a short shelf life (5–7 days) present major logistical challenges for healthcare systems. In emergency situations or when matched blood is unavailable, ABO-incompatible platelets are frequently transfused, carrying the risk of severe transfusion reactions. Furthermore, current workflows mean that substantial quantities of collected blood cannot be utilized to produce platelet concentrates due to excessively high levels of blood group antibodies. Consequently, there is a strong demand for technologies capable of effectively reducing blood group antibody titers during the preparation of platelet concentrates and other blood components.
The study, titled "Evaluation of an ABO antibody immunoadsorption column for reduction of anti-A and anti-B isoagglutinin titers in group O platelet units", evaluated the use of Glycosorb® ABO to reduce antibody titers (anti-A and anti-B) in platelet concentrates.
Key Findings of the Study:
• Significant Antibody Reduction: Following a single pass through Glycosorb® ABO, antibody titers dropped markedly from initial levels up to 512 down to ≤ 4 (IgM) and ≤ 8 (IgG).
• High Cell Recovery: Minimal cell loss (approx. 4–5%) was observed, ensuring that the therapeutic dose of platelets was preserved.
• Reduced Transfusion Risk: The reduction of antibodies to levels well below 32 effectively eliminates the risk of hemolytic reactions.
"The publication in Transfusion is a major milestone and a strong, key external validation from NHSBT, one of the world's most respected blood banking organizations. The results confirm that our technology can solve a major clinical challenge in healthcare by enabling the safe and flexible preparation of universal low-titer platelet concentrates. This is yet another positive evaluation demonstrating how successfully our technology can be applied to prepare these types of blood products," says Carl-Magnus Schultz, CEO of Glycorex Transplantation AB.

Brief information about the company
Glycorex Transplantation AB (publ) is a global medical technology company headquartered in Sweden. The company has developed a unique medical technology (antigen-specific immunoadsorption) to specifically reduce blood group and autoantibodies in the blood.
The company’s focus areas are within transplantation, blood transfusion, and autoimmune diseases. The company has sales in over 30 countries, with Europe as its largest market. Sales take place through own sales channels and in cooperation with distributors in selected markets.
Product development and production takes place in the company’s own facility in Lund, Sweden.
Glycosorb® ABO is one of the company’s self-developed proprietary medical devices that is used to facilitate blood group-incompatible transplantation by specifically reducing anti-A/B antibodies in the organ recipient’s plasma. Whilst primarily used to facilitate blood group incompatible kidney transplants, Glycosorb® ABO is also used in blood group incompatible liver-, heart-, lung-, and stem cell transplants. More than 60 scientific publications have been published in reputable medical journals, showing excellent short- and long-term outcomes of blood group incompatible transplants performed with Glycosorb® ABO. Glycosorb® ABO has been used in more than 8,000 transplants in over 30 countries.
The company has also developed and CE-marked a medical device variant of Glycosorb® ABO that targets a different customer segment: transfusion clinics and blood centers. The product can help increase the availability of universal blood components and has been shown to be effective for the preparation of low-titer blood plasma, whole blood, and platelet concentrate.
The company is collaborating with a leading European research institute to develop a product for the treatment of the autoimmune disease rheumatoid arthritis.
Glycorex Transplantation AB (publ) is listed on NGM Main Regulated Equity (Nordic Growth Market) and is traded under the symbol GTAB B.
