TWO FREMM FRIGATES FOR THE
HELLENIC NAVY
The
agreement
paves
the way
for
further
collaboration
strategies
between
Italy
and
Greece
Italy
and
Greece
today
signed
in
Rome
the
Implement
ing A
rrangement
concerning
the
transfer,
through
Fincantieri,
of two
FREMM
frigates,
Carlo
Bergamini
and
Virginio
Fasan
,
currently
in
service
with
the
Italian
Navy
fleet,
to the
Hellenic
Navy.
The
agreement
was
signed
between
the
General
Directorate
of
Defence
Investments
and
Armaments
(GD DIA
) of
the
Ministry
of
National
Defence
and its
Italian
counterpart,
the
Italian
General
Directorate
for
Armaments
, in
the
presence
of
Italian
Minister
of
Defence
Guido
Crosetto
,
Greek
Minister
of
National
Defence
Nikos
Dendias
, and
the
Chiefs
of the
respective
Navies,
Admiral
Giuseppe
Berutti
Bergotto
and
Admiral
Dimitrios
-
Eleftherios
Kataras
.
Representing
Fincantieri
were
Pierroberto
Folgiero,
Chief
Executive
Officer
and
Managing
Director
, and
Eugenio
Santagata,
General
Manager
of the
Naval
Vessels
Division
.
The
Implementing
Arrangement
follows
the
Memorandum
of
Cooperation
and the
Declaration
of
Intent
signed
in
September
2025
and
further
strengthens
relations
between
Italy
and Greece.
For the
Group,
the
transaction
represents
a
gateway
to
future
opportunities
and new
cooperation
strategies.
Under
the
agreement,
Fincantieri
will
play
a
leading
role
both
in the
transfer
process
and in
providing
support
throughout
the
entire
lifecycle
of the
two
vessels,
while
also
contributing
to the
strengthening
of
industrial
cooperation
with
Greece.
The
agreement
defines
the key
aspects
relating
to the
transfer
of the
two
ships,
the
initial
and
long
-
term
support
activities
required
to
ensure
their
operational
readiness
, and
the
involvement
of
Greek
industry
in
maintenance
activities
and the
integration
of new
systems
on
board
the vessels.
Designed
and
built
by
Fincantieri
for the
Italian
Navy,
the two
frigates
represent
one of
the
most
advanced
expressions
of the
Group’s
technological
and
industrial
capabilities
.
They
validate
a
model
that
combines
innovation,
operational
support,
and
long
-
term
international
cooperation,
while
also
demonstrating
the
value
of the
FREMM
platform
in
terms
of
adaptability,
flexibility,
and
continuity
of
naval
operations.
