The European Investment Bank (EIB) and FNM S.p. A. (FNM) have signed an EUR 80 million financing agreement to support a broad sustainable mobility investment programme in Lombardy. The transaction, backed by InvestEU and SACE's Archimede Guarantee, will finance innovative FNM Group projects involving the use of hydrogen in transport, contributing to the energy transition and the development of a more modern and sustainable transport system in Italy.
The financing has a total maturity of 15 years from the date of drawdown, with a 36 -month availability period from signing and an amortising repayment profile, including a 3- year grace period. The initiative is fully aligned with the objectives of InvestEU , the European Union's investment programme through which the EIB Group has already mobilised more than EUR 6 billion in Italy, promoting sustainable transport infrastructure and alternative fuel networks. The project also falls within the EIB's TechEU strategy, as it supports the adoption of innovative technologies across the clean- tech value chain, accelerating the deployment of low -emission solutions in the railway sector.
Michele Pignotti, Chief Executive Officer of SACE , stated: “Through the Archimede Guarantee, we stand alongside the EIB and FNM in supporting a strategic investment that contributes to the transformation of mobility in Italy. The adoption of innovative technologies and the development of dedicated infras tructure are key drivers for accelerating transport decarbonisation and creating a more modern and sustainable system. In line with our Strategic Plan, we aim to continue supporting investments capable of generating value for local communities while foster ing growth, innovation and the country's competitiveness.” Andrea Angelo Gibelli, Chairman of FNM S.p.A. , commented: “This financing agreement strengthens our commitment to the decarbonisation of mobility through the introduction of innovative hydrogen-based solutions in both rail and road transport.
