The two-vessel retrofit project has been completed for a leading global shipping and logistics company
Climeon has successfully commissioned and handed over the second HeatPower 300 system in the previously announced two-vessel retrofit project. The system is now operational and generating electricity from waste heat on board the vessel.
“We now have HeatPower 300 systems in operation on eight container vessels. That gives us important experience and references as we work to win more projects in the marine market. The commissioning was carried out while the vessel remained in service, which also shows that HeatPower 300 is a practical option for existing vessels to decrease fuel consumption,” said Lena Sundquist, CEO of Climeon.
Climeon’s HeatPower 300 system recovers low-temperature heat from the engine cooling system and can also utilize excess steam, when available, to increase power output. It is configured to adapt autonomously to the varying conditions throughout the voyage to deliver stable, reliable power to the vessel.
With fuel costs remaining high and volatile and maritime regulations continuing to evolve, improving fuel efficiency is essential for shipping companies to remain competitive. By reducing the vessel’s need for electricity from its auxiliary engines, HeatPower 300 can lower both fuel consumption and related carbon dioxide emissions. Completion of the two-vessel project also adds two retrofit references to Climeon’s installed base and strengthens the company’s track record as it pursues further opportunities in the marine market.
