CIB Reports First-Half 2026 CONSOLIDATED REVENUE OF EGP 65.6 BILLION AND NET INCOME OF EGP 39.3 BILLION |
|
CAIRO - Commercial International Bank (EGX: COMI) today reported first-half 2026 consolidated net income of EGP 39.3 billion, or EGP 10.2 per share, up by 18% from first-half 2025. Following a first-quarter that was packed with geopolitical tensions and global uncertainties, and which transmitted thereafter, CIB reinforced its resilient financial performance in the second quarter of 2026, echoing the well-maintained composure of the Egyptian Economy, which came evident in tamed inflation and a stronger currency, with the Egyptian Pound appreciating by EGP 5.37 against the USD. In tandem, CIB delivered strong top- and bottom-line growth in the second quarter of 2026, recording a bottom line of EGP 21.5 billion, growing by an impressive 21% from the first quarter and by an even further impressive 29% from last year, mainly driven by strong growth in top line by 10% and 23%, respectively. Cumulatively, CIB recorded first-half 2026 bottom line of EGP 39.3 billion, growing by 18% from first-half 2025, and by 19% in USD terms, backed by 20% growth in top line. Such notable performance was largely backed by accelerated balance sheet growth during the quarter, primarily in local currency, with local currency deposits growing by a remarkable 20% or EGP 141 billion from last quarter, of which 75% or EGP 106 billion came in Current Accounts and Saving Accounts (CASA), marking the highest local currency deposit quarterly net sales in the Bank's history. Achieving this despite the increasingly-competitive environment within and beyond the Egyptian Banking Sector further reinstates the earlier-highlighted focus placed by Management on building a solid and stable funding base, necessary to ensure balance sheet resilience and meet growing credit demand. This robust balance sheet growth transpired while holding onto margins, which expectedly came down, yet by a confined 35 basis points (bps) from last year, against the steep local policy-rate cuts by 500bps through the year, as largely safeguarded by the retained CASA share, representing 63% of total deposits, up from 62% last quarter and from 59% last year. Meanwhile, CIB pursued its role in funding to businesses and individuals, growing local currency loans, including securitization deals, by a robust 9% or EGP 45 billion, and foreign currency loans by a decent 6% or USD 188 million. Loan growth in the quarter came primarily in corporate loans, which grew by 8% or EGP 46 billion in real terms, upon excluding the EGP Appreciation impact, inclusive of EGP 37 billion growth in CAPEX. This came while continuing to extend funding to Small-and-Medium-Sized-Enterprises (SMEs), to surpass 30% of the Bank's portfolio, compared to the 25% required minimum by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE). With that, the local currency loan-to-deposit ratio recorded a healthy 65%, while the foreign currency loan-to-deposit ratio recorded 36%, up from 34% last quarter and from 32% by end of 2025, heading gradually towards the strategic target emphasized by Management to scale-up profitable foreign currency lending. This fed into remarkable growth in the sustainable stream of non-interest income, with net fee and commission income recording EGP 3.6 billion in the second quarter of 2026, growing by 62% from last quarter, and EGP 5.8 billion in the first half, growing by 40% from last year. The entirety of that contributed to a healthy Return on Average Equity (ROAE) of 33.5% in the first half, which materialized while simultaneously upholding a comfortable Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) of 28.4%, and with a Common Equity Tier I (CET1) Capital Ratio of 24.4%. In that, strong profitability came sufficiently accommodating for lending momentum, reaffirming Management focus on sustainable growth in commercial activities, yet while staying mindful of the associated economic cost of capital therein. |
MANAGEMENT COMMENTED:
"The strong balance sheet growth achieved this quarter comes as a further testament to the Bank's brand equity and Management focus on enhancing the journey, and uplifting the overall experience, of customers, with such unprecedented growth in local currency deposits coming to pass despite the challenging environment, and despite CIB not offering the highest-in-market deposit rates across products. Yet, CIB managed to increase the number of New-to-Bank (NTB) Customers by 26% from 100 thousand in first-quarter 2026 to 127 thousand in second-quarter 2026, and by 35% from 169 thousand in first-half 2025 to 227 thousand in first-half 2026. This was undeniably supported by a sound digital infrastructure, which allowed CIB to continue to pioneer in Digital Banking, as exemplified in the launch of "CIB Business", marking the first - in the Egyptian Market - Mobile Application exclusively designed for Business Banking Customers. Evidently, the volume and value of digital transactions increased by 15% and 55%, respectively, from last year, with CIB serving 2.2 million users of Online Banking Digital Platforms by end of first-half 2026, coupled with a 21% increase in the NTB Digital Registration Rate to record 83% of NTB Customers in first-half 2026. Further, the Bank continued to expand its strategic partnerships, with new collaborations and ecosystem initiatives strengthening the customer value proposition for CIB. This granted strong momentum to the Bank's card business, as clearly reflected in a 25% increase in the number of Credit Cards issued from last year, to record 104 thousand cards in first-half 2026. Product innovation continued, with enhanced saving and deposit propositions alongside enriched financing solutions designed to better meet evolving customer needs and support sustainable portfolio growth. This came clearly exemplified in CIB taking the lead in offering Floating-Rate Certificates of Deposits (CDs) with a high-yet-variable return, catering to the needs of customers in having a high-yield saving haven, alternative to customary fixed-rate deposits, while simultaneously safeguarding the Bank's margins and spreads. Moving forward, CIB remains committed to its earlier-cited prioritization of balance sheet resilience and operational efficiency, with continued Management focus on healthy and sustainable balance sheet growth, customer centricity and shareholder return maximization." |
