BONESUPPORT™ HIGHLIGHTS STRONG MOMENTUM AT EBJIS-MSIS 2026
BONESUPPORT, a leading company in orthobiologics for the management of bone injuries, today announces key takeaways from the first joint meeting of the European Bone & Joint Infection Society (EBJIS) and the U.S.-based Musculoskeletal Infection Society (MSIS), held in Porto, Portugal, on September 17-19, 2026. The congress, which attracted some 1,400 participants, highlighted the growing importance of local antibiotic therapy in orthopedic infection management, with CERAMENT® and the SOLARIO study featured prominently throughout the scientific program.
The SOLARIO study demonstrated that the duration of systemic antibiotic therapy can be significantly reduced without compromising outcomes, while also reducing adverse events, when local antibiotics are used in conjunction with surgical management of orthopedic infections. SOLARIO was presented, referenced, and discussed across multiple scientific sessions during the congress, including the BONESUPPORT symposium, attended by 350 participants, where global academic and clinical opinion leaders presented the evidence and their experience with CERAMENT® G and CERAMENT® V. The study received further recognition during the congress when Professor Martin McNally was awarded an award for the work, underscoring its significance for the future of orthopedic infection management.
Discussions and presentations at the congress reinforced BONESUPPORT's view that local antibiotic-eluting bone graft substitutes represent an attractive and growing segment within orthopedic infection management. The meeting did not present any viable technologies or clinical data indicating the emergence of any comparable alternative to CERAMENT G, highlighting the significant clinical, regulatory, and reimbursement-related requirements to entry, and the long lead times involved in commercialization. This observation is consistent with BONESUPPORT's previously communicated view of the competitive landscape.
The recent CMS decision regarding reimbursement for CERAMENT G was highlighted by several U.S. participants as a potential game changer for broader adoption of resorbable antibiotic-eluting bone void fillers. Effective October 1, 2026, qualifying CERAMENT G cases will be assigned to the highest-reimbursing Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRGs) within their respective clinical categories. CERAMENT G is the only bone void filler covered by the decision. With strong reimbursement and clear clinical and health-economic benefits, the potential of CERAMENT remains very attractive.
