BOLOGNA AIRPORT EXCEEDS ONE MILLION PASSENGERS IN SEPTEMBER
Record -breaking Palermo tops the list of the month’s destinations
Another seven -figure month for Bologna Airport. In September, Marconi Airport welcomed 1,034, 488 passengers, up 1.1% compared with the same month in 2025 .
Growth was driven by domestic traffic, with 264,598 passengers , with an increase of 5.9% compared with September 2025. International traffic remained essentially stable ( -
0.4%), with 769,890 passengers .
Aircraft movements in September totalled 7,2 45, up slightly (+1. 7%) on 2025, while freight amounted to 3, 745 tons , up 1.4% compared with the same month in 2025.
Sunday 20 September, with 39,588 passengers, was the busiest day of the month.
Among the most popular destinations in September, Palermo continued its rapid growth and, also thanks to the launch of Wizz Air’s service on 1 August, recorded a 78% increase, with more than 48,000 passengers . Palermo therefore remained the airport’s top destination, ahead of Catania and Tirana. The month’s top ten destinations also included Barcelona, Cagliari, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Istanbul, Bucharest, Amsterdam and London Heathrow.
In the first nine months of the year, Marconi Airport handled a total of 8,805, 313 passengers , up 3.2% compared with the corresponding period in 2025 and exceeding the total traffic recorded during the whole of 2018. Aircraft movements from January to September reached 62,1 16, up 3.0%, while freight totalled 31, 656 tons, down 3. 2% compared with 2025.

Aeroporto Guglielmo Marconi di Bologna, classified as a "strategic airport" in the centre -north area of the National Airports Plan prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, rec orded in 2025 11.1 million passengers, ranking as the seven th biggest Italian airport by number of passengers (Source: Assaeroporti – Aeroporti2030 ). Located in the heart of the Emilian food valley and the automotive and packaging industrial districts, the airport has a catchment area of about 11 million inhabitants and around 47,000 companies, with a strong propensity to exports and internationalisatio n and with commercial expansion policies to Eastern Europe and Asia.
As for airport infrastructure, the airport has among its strategic objectives in the next few years an important development plan that mainly concerns the expansion of the terminal, particularly in t he gate area. The company's aim is to make Bologna Airport one of the most modern and functional in Italy, an important gateway to the city and region.
