Marcy-l’Étoile (France), September 24, 2026 – bioMérieux, a global leader in in vitro diagnostics, today announced the launch of SPINCHIP^®, an innovative point-of-￾care platform, featuring its first test for the measurement of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I from a single drop of blood: SPINCHIP^® hs-cTnl. Being presented at the European Society of Emergency Medicine (EUSEM) Congress in Paris, this rapid diagnostic solution will initially be available in Europe, bringing a critical test closer to the point of care and helping emergency teams quickly triage adult patients with suspected acute myocardial infarction.

Overcrowding in Emergency Departments and Patient Prioritization: A Societal Challenge for Healthcare Efficiency

Across Europe, emergency departments are facing increasing pressure, with direct consequences for the quality of care, response times, team organization, and the use of hospital resources. A study conducted by EUSEM in 2023 reveals that approximately 90% of emergency department professionals in Europe believe their department regularly faces a patient volume that exceeds its capacity to provide care.¹

According to several national studies, chest pain is estimated to account for approximatively 5 to 10 percent of adult presentations in European emergency departments.²

In traditional care pathways, the assessment of the risk of myocardial infarction relies on troponin testing performed by the hospital laboratory. However, the average wait time between sample collection and the return of results is approximately one hour and 30 minutes.³ This delay may slow down medical decision-making and put the patient’s health at risk. It may also unnecessarily prolong patients’ stays in the emergency department and limit bed availability.

“In the emergency department, when a patient presents with chest pain, time counts, and uncertainty becomes a major risk factor. Waiting more than an hour for lab results creates a bottleneck, putting a strain on departments, with direct impacts on patient management and cost of care. Today, there is a significant need for rapid and reliable diagnostic results as close to the patient as possible, directly in the emergency departments,” emphasizes Prof. Helge Røsjø, Scientific Leader of Akershus Clinical Research Center and Head of Research & Innovation at Akershus University Hospital in Norway.

SPINCHIP^®: Bringing Laboratory-Grade Performance to the Point of Care

bioMérieux is launching SPINCHIP^®, a compact immunoassay platform for point-of-care testing outside traditional laboratories. Its first test, SPINCHIP^® hs-cTnI, enables high￾sensitivity measurement of the cardiac marker troponin I to accelerate clinical decision￾making, allowing for rapid and confident triage of adult patients with suspected acute myocardial infarction.

With a turnaround time of around 10 minutes, SPINCHIP^® speeds up patient triage, helping streamline care pathways, relieve pressure on emergency departments, and optimize the use of hospital resources. The technology is based on a test capable of providing a highly accurate result from a single drop of capillary blood — a major advantage for both patient comfort and ease of use.

The platform can be used by all emergency care professionals while offering analytical performance comparable to that of laboratory instruments. Its intuitive operation consists of three steps: collecting a drop of blood from the fingertip using a cartridge barely larger than a coin, inserting the cartridge into the device, and reading the result after 10 minutes. The SPINCHIP^® solution is designed to connect to hospital information systems to facilitate traceability and the integration of results into the patient’s care pathway, under the supervision of clinical laboratory scientists.

A Strategic Launch for bioMérieux

One year after acquiring the Norwegian company SpinChip Diagnostics, bioMérieux is taking a new step forward in the development of its point-of-care testing portfolio. The SPINCHIP^® solution, which is part of the company’s GO•28 strategic plan, will contribute to bioMérieux’s long-term growth, well beyond 2028.

Officially CE-marked in accordance with the IVDR* regulation, the SPINCHIP^® hs-cTnl test is initially being launched in Europe, before a gradual rollout outside the European Union.
