Finago Tower, which rises above Keilaniemi in Espoo, was opened on 7 October 1976, 50 years ago today. When completed, it was Finland’s tallest building and one of the country’s first open-plan office buildings. Today, it serves as the headquarters of the Nordic software company Finago.
The 83.6-metre tower was designed by the architectural firm Castrén–Jauhiainen–Nuuttila as Neste’s headquarters. When completed, it became the tallest building in Finland and retained that status for around three decades. Its interior design was just as bold as its height: the building featured open-plan offices at a time when they were still rare in Finland. In Espoo, the landmark is still known by the nickname “Raade’s Tooth”, derived from the name of Neste’s then President and CEO, Uolevi Raade.
Over the decades, the property has changed both its name and its occupants several times. In November 2025, it was named Finago Tower after its current main tenant. The building currently also houses 14 other companies, two restaurants and a gym.
Many details dating back to the building’s completion have been deliberately preserved during renovations. The façade is still clad in white limestone from Sipoo and the second floor retains rare alder parquet flooring, used in only two other locations in Finland, including Helsinki Airport. The second and third floors also feature a classic coffered ceiling. The tower’s history as Neste’s headquarters is still visible on the 18th floor: Finago’s current meeting space showcases a ship’s helm and bell as well as a large globe dating back to the days of the Neste’s former oil tanker fleet.
“Fifty years ago, this building offered Finland a new vision of working life, ahead of its time. Over the decades, the tower has been home to companies from many industries, and now its story continues as the headquarters of a software company. For Finago, it is much more than an address: it is part of Finland’s history of pioneering, a legacy we have the privilege of continuing with the same courage,” says Finago's CEO Lars Engbork.
Finago Tower’s anniversary will be celebrated later this autumn at an event hosted by Newsec, the building’s current owner.
